Council of Department Chairs

NOTE: THESE MINUTES REFLECT DISCUSSIONS THAT HAPPENED ON THE DATE OF THESE MINUTES.  DUE TO THE COVID-19 SITUATION, THINGS ARE RAPIDLY CHANGING.  FOR OFFICIAL POLICY PLEASE WAIT FOR DOCUMENTS FROM THE APPROPRIATE OFFICES.  

 

  1. Approve Agenda (10:00)
  2. Approve Minutes from November 16th
  3. Announcements
    1. ASM
      1. Budget AVP now has a May 15, 2022 deadline; will work with payroll to include our May payroll into the system.
      2. Roughly $1.7 million left to spend on laboratory conversions, tech classrooms, summer session, etc.
        1. Some items are no longer available for lab and class conversion; ATS has initiated change orders for those items.
      3. Get any hiring plans for Winter Break to Henry as soon as possible.
    2. Operations Update
      1. Commencement Awards will be called for earlier than usual in Spring 2022 semester.
        1. Graduate Dean’s List of University Scholars & Honors
          1. Departments should provide one standout so that the college has 6 to choose from.
        2. Green Dean Awards
      2. Commencement for Spring 2022 will be on either May 16, 17 or 18.
        1. No specified time yet.

        1. Chairs should review list of lecturers undergoing evaluation to ensure it is accurate.

        2. Review the CNSM evaluation criteria, list of required documents, and the deadlines.

      2. Transfer Advising
        1. Review transfer advising data provided by Kris for enrollment seats and accurate waitlist information.
      3. CNSM Degrees Granted Majors FTEF Graduation Rates
        1. Review spreadsheet provided by Kris in preparation for the Chair’s Retreat.

  5. Repopulation in Spring
    1. 4 & 1 and How We Prepare for the Expected Unexpected
      1. Proposed 5 & 0 schedule for student-facing staff at the start of the semester (1/18/22 – 2/4/22) to accommodate increased student presence. Potentially scale back to 4 & 1 as we determine operational need.
      2. “Red X” policy tbd from university administration.
    2. Managing increased flow of students with FAQ handouts to keep crowds moving.
    3. Still waiting for clarity on student labs.
    4. Follow current vaccination, testing, pre-screen, and exposure procedures.
      1. Consider exam and lab complications and plan to have asynchronous content in case exposures affect classes.
      2. Provide potential language for syllabi.
