CSULB College of the Arts Begins Fall 2020 Semester with Virtual Convocation
For decades, the CSULB College of the Arts has gathered staff and faculty together for an opening meeting at the start of each academic year. This year the gathering took place remotely, with more than 150 College of the Arts colleagues attending from their homes, phones, and their quarantine spaces, and our College leadership shared plans and a vision for moving forward and thriving in this difficult time. The meeting included remarks from all of the College of the Arts Directors and Chairs, the College of the Arts academic and fundraising leadership, and messages from the Provost as well as representatives from the faculty and staff unions. On Friday, August 21, 2020, the CSULB Convocation was held and the College of the Arts figured handily in the 90-minute launch of the new academic year. From the PhotoVoice project this summer managed, in part, by the Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum to a virtual choir recording featuring the University Chorus; from President Jane Close Conoley quoting and showcasing Theatre Arts faculty member Gayle Baizer and her class to the inclusion of images of School of Art faculty Craig Cree Stone (now retired) and Robin Richesson; from two College of the Arts staff members (Jennifer Moran and Pedro Castro) spotlighted as two of the five most recent Staff Member of the Year recipients to a special welcome and acknowledgement of Dr. Robin Bargar and his new role as Dean of the College of the Arts. The University showcased the importance and prominence of the College of the Arts to this university and its community.
