Career Workshops & Appointments

The CHHS Academic Advising Center offers hands-on workshops, small group sessions, and individual appointments to help undergraduate students find the right career path, prepare for their job search, and pursue rewarding careers after graduation. 

Our Summer 2021 Career Workshops listed below will take place virtually through Zoom. Links to the Zoom workshops will be sent through email prior to each workshop and are open to CHHS undergraduate students only.

Salary Negotiation 

Tips and strategies to get the best out of a new job

Did you know? 8 of 10 companies are willing to negotiate but only 3 of 10 job candidates ever try! Before you get a job offer, understand why salary negotiation is important, build your self-confidence, strengthen your skills and learn strategies that will increase your success in the art of salary negotiation.

Practice Your Interview Skills

Are you prepared for your next interview? 

This hands-on workshop will provide the tips needed to feel prepared and confident in your next interview. You will learn about the types of interview formats to expect, Behavioral Interviewing questions and non-verbal aspects of interviewing. Using a sample job posting, you will have a chance to practice your skills. The final (optional) 30 minutes will be offered to those who want to practice interviewing with a partner.

Branding You 101 — Your LinkedIn Profile

What is Linked In? Why do I need a profile and when should I create one?

Intro to Career Development for Students in CHHS

How to have a career by design, not default

This workshop is especially great for first and second-year students as well as transfer students who are new to the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). Learn how to establish your professional reputation now and explore what career options are available to you through the Career Options page on the CHHS website.

Learn how to use job search tools and sample job postings to research potential internships and jobs in your field, identify what employers are looking for, and learn how to stand out as a job candidate.

CAREER SESSIONS & APPOINTMENTS

Individual Appointments 

Students may also schedule an individual appointment with Amy Gleason, the Career Coordinator, through Beach Connect.

  1. Log in using Single Sign-On. Click on the Beach Connect button.
  2. On the far right side, click the “Get Assistance” Button to make an advising appointment.
  3. From the drop-down menu choose the type of appointment you need. To meet with your Career Counselor choose “Academic Advising”.
  4. Select the type of advising by choosing “Advising Center”. Then select the service “Career/Internship Exploration.”
  5. Select "College of Health and Human Services Advising Center" from the Location drop-down.
  6. Choose the day and time that fits with your schedule. If none of the available times work for you, you can view the Walk-in Times for the advising center.
  7. Review the Appointment Details and select which method you wish to receive your reminder: email or text. Please put a few brief notes about what you’d like to discuss with your advisor in the comment box.
