The CHHS Academic Advising Center offers hands-on workshops, small group sessions, and individual appointments to help undergraduate students find the right career path, prepare for their job search, and pursue rewarding careers after graduation.

Intro to Career Development for Students in CHHS

Graduation begins today – how to have a career by design, not default

This workshop is especially great for first and second year students as well as transfer students who are new to the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). Learn how to establish your professional reputation now and explore what career options are available to you through the Career Options page on the CHHS website.

College students often have more skills than they realize. Learn how to identify and communicate your transferable skills to employers, as well as strategies to build more transferable skills as a student.

Prepare for the Career Fair: Strategies for Success

Feel confident and be prepared at the (virtual) Career Fair

This workshop is great for 3rd and 4th year students. Workshop attendees will learn why you should attend the Job & Internship Fairs, how to prepare, and how to present yourself in a virtual fair setting.

Practice Your Interview Skills

You will be glad you did! 

This hands-on workshop will provide the tips needed to feel prepared and confident in your next interview. You will learn about the types of interview formats to expect, Behavioral Interviewing questions and non-verbal aspects of interviewing. Using a sample job posting, you will have a chance to practice your skills.

Informational Interviews

Manage conversation for a successful outcome

One of the most effective ways to learn about your future career, network and make an impression on potential employers is to conduct an Informational Interview. Come learn what it is and how to request one.

CAREER SESSIONS & APPOINTMENTS

Individual Appointments 

Students may also schedule an individual appointment with Amy Gleason, the Career Coordinator, through Beach Connect.

  1. Log in using Single Sign-On. Click on the Beach Connect button.
  2. On the far right side, click the “Get Assistance” Button to make an advising appointment.
  3. From the drop-down menu choose the type of appointment you need. To meet with your Career Counselor choose “Academic Advising”.
  4. Select the type of advising by choosing “Advising Center”. Then select the service “Career/Internship Exploration.”
  5. Select "College of Health and Human Services Advising Center" from the Location drop-down.
  6. Choose the day and time that fits with your schedule. If none of the available times work for you, you can view the Walk-in Times for the advising center.
  7. Review the Appointment Details and select which method you wish to receive your reminder: email or text. Please put a few brief notes about what you’d like to discuss with your advisor in the comment box.
