Force Options - Use of Force and De-escalation (SB230)

This is a Train the Trainer course that satisfies the training requirements of SB230 and AB392.

This course prepares students to teach the 8-hour POST-certified Force Options Use of Force/De-escalation course - which satisfies the requirements of SB230 and incorporates elements of AB392. The 8 hour POST-certified Force Options Use of Force/De-escalation course also satisfies the POST Strategic Communications PSP. Instructors attending this train-the-trainer course will receive instruction on how to develop officers’ ability to critically analyze events involving force, including consideration of state and federal use of force standards, de-escalation, department policy, mental health awareness, bias, and justice system legitimacy. Attendance includes a copy of the 8-hour course curriculum and materials necessary to obtain POST certification.

**Note: This course does not include FOS-VR instruction and students wishing to teach using this equipment must attend the appropriate POST FOS Instructor Course.

Priority registration will be reserved for agencies receiving a FOS-VR machine from POST.
