Fieldwork Clearance

All candidates that will be completing fieldwork associated with a CSULB course or Credential Program requirements must have a valid Certificate of Clearance and TB Test prior to requesting a fieldwork placement with a partner school district.  Once you have a valid Certificate of Clearance and TB test, you do not need to submit them anywhere. Just have them in your possession should your instructor or fieldwork site ask to see them.  Candidates seeking a fieldwork placement in LBUSD must follow the steps below to receive district level clearance before being placed. For a list of courses that have a fieldwork requirement, click here.

Candidates seeking to do fieldwork in a district other than LBUSD

  1. Check the list of approved Fieldwork sites to ensure we have an Affiliation Agreement on file with the school district.  If the district is listed, then all schools within the district are approved.  Be sure to read any notes listed with the district since some are approved only for student teaching.  Fieldwork CANNOT be done in a district in which we do not have an agreement on file with for liability purposes.
  2. To request a placement in a school district other than LBUSD you will need to contact the school site directly and request a placement once the semester begins. When visiting the school site for the first time you should bring with you the following items: 1) Your valid Certificate of Clearance/30 Day Sub Permit/Activity Supervisor Permit/Child Development Permit, 2) your valid TB Test (skin tests and TB risk assessments are valid for 4 years; chest x-rays are valid for 8 years), 3) A copy of your course syllabi or a letter from your instructor explaining the fieldwork requirement for your course.
  3. The school site will let you know what the procedure is to complete fieldwork within their district.

Candidates seeking to do fieldwork in Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD)

LBUSD is FULL for Spring 2019. No further applications for Fieldwork Placements will be accepted.

Candidates seeking to do fieldwork with LBUSD must be fingerprinted and cleared by the District prior to being placed in a school. LBUSD does not allow self-placements. All placement requests must go through the District Human Resources Office and can take up to 3 weeks to receive placement so it is suggested that candidates request a placement as soon as they are enrolled in courses that require fieldwork.

Follow the steps below to request a fieldwork placement in LBUSD:

Candidates that have not completed any fieldwork in LBUSD within the last 12 months must:

Fingerprinting is done by appointment ONLY.
