Learning Community

The Caminos Learning Community Mission Statement:

The mission of the Caminos Learning Community (CPLC) is to increase the pipeline of Latinx teachers and strengthen the cultural capacity of all students interested in teaching as a profession to serve in Latinx community contexts by immersing themselves in a substantive and critical examination of the history, issues, and experiences of Latinx.

Goals

  • Provide professional development and teacher networking opportunities to facilitate a successful career in the teaching profession as an agent of equity, opportunity and change.
  • Create a caring community where Latinx students feel welcomed, and supported and intellectually challenged.
  • Build a supportive peer network for students that include, staff, faculty and community members to guide them to successfully navigate their studies and teacher preparation.
  • Provide cultural, social, and academic learning opportunities through programs that will encourage students to explore their individual and socio-professional identity development as teachers.
  • Create substantive connections between students and community resources to promote culturally responsive teaching that engages and affirms the lived experiences of K-12 students.

Programmatic

Caminos students will participate in cultural, social, and professional development programs hosted by the Caminos Project. The programs will be designed to build an active and reflective learning community to complement the curricular pathways of the Caminos Project Learning Community.

Academic

Students in the CPLC are required to take at least 1 course approved by the Caminos Project by the end of the program. The goal of the approved courses is to build cultural capacities and assets of students seeking to teach in Latinx contexts. New course offerings are shared every Fall and Spring.

How do I sign-up for the Caminos Learning Community?
