Kendra Jones

At the CSULB College of Business, we aim to make the MBA a reality for the most promising students. With this in mind, the MBA Advisory Board has established a new scholarship for MBA students to help prepare the next generation of business leaders. MBA Advisory Board Member Kendra Jones, Vice President Legal Affairs and General Counsel for Epson America, talks about what motivates her to personally donate and support the scholarship fund.

Why support a scholarship for CSULB MBA students?

I really enjoyed graduate school where I earned both an MBA and JD, I found it both challenging and rewarding in many ways. It was a lot of work but I have always had a passion for learning and my MBA program in particular provided many opportunities to work with inspiring and diverse groups of students.  It was a great opportunity to develop my leadership skills and learn how to bring out the best in a student group with various talents and strengths. Looking back, this was really valuable experience as almost everything you do in a corporate environment is cross-functional.

Were you helped by scholarships? If not, why do they think it’s important to provide support?

I received some scholarship money for my JD program based on my grades, which was extremely helpful.  While I was fortunate that my parents paid for my undergraduate education I had to take out loans to pay for my graduate education.  I worked as much as I could during my graduate program to cover some of my personal expenses but my priority was always school.   It was undoubtedly the best investment I have made, and now as a member of the CSULB MBA Advisory Board I am happy to contribute to the future of CSULB MBA students that are investing in themselves and their education.

What is your hope for the scholarship?

I hope that this scholarship program grows so we can help even more students focus on school as much as possible while minimizing future debt obligations.  I think it is important to give back to programs that I believe are providing high quality and affordable educational opportunities for students in our community.

If you are able to give, please consider donating to make an MBA possible for the most hard-working students. Together, we can leverage the power of scholarships and educate the future leaders of global business.
