The CHHS Academic Advising Center offers hands-on workshops, small group sessions, and individual appointments to help undergraduate students find the right career path, prepare for their job search, and pursue rewarding careers after graduation.

This workshop is especially great for first and second-year students as well as transfer students who are new to the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS).     This workshop provides strategies to maintain hope and stay competitive during this challenging time. You will learn about what skills employers are seeking, and how you can stand out as a potential candidate in your job search.

    Practice Your Interview Skills

    This hands-on workshop will provide the tips needed to feel prepared and confident in your next interview. You will learn about the types of interview formats to expect, Behavioral Interviewing questions, and non-verbal aspects of interviewing. Using a sample job posting, you will have a chance to practice your skills.

      Dos and Don'ts of Professional Communication

      Do you Upspeak?  Are you undermining yourself by using weak or indecisive language at work? This workshop raises self-awareness of our own communication patterns and provides tools for assertive, effective communication.

      Be a Standout Employee - What Employers Want You to Know

      Whether it's for a volunteer, internship, campus job, or career position, this workshop will give you the recruiter inside information you need to know about hiring practices and expectations for workplace professionalism.

      Networking Strategies: Informational Interviews, Linked In, and Beach Nexus

      One of the most essential strategies to learn about your major and future career, and make potential connections for internships and jobs is through networking. Learn the importance of networking, how to make a positive first impression with alumni and potential employers, and what resources you can use to make connections.

      Informational Interviews

      One of the most effective ways to learn about your future career, network, and make an impression on potential employers is to conduct an Informational Interview. Come learn what it is, how to request one and how to manage the conversation for a successful outcome.

      Do You Know Your Transferable Skills? 

      How can you get a job when employers expect experience?  College students often have more skills than they realize. Learn how to identify and communicate your transferable skills to employers, as well as strategies to build more transferable skills as a student.

      Salary Negotiation 

      Did you know? 8 of 10 companies are willing to negotiate but only 3 of 10 job candidates ever try! Before you get a job offer, understand why salary negotiation is important, build your self-confidence, strengthen your skills, and learn strategies that will increase your success in the art of salary negotiation.

      Individual Appointments

      Students may also schedule an individual appointment with Amy Gleason, the Career Coordinator, through Beach Connect.

      Scheduling a CHHS Career Counseling appointment:

      • View available Career Counseling appointment times on Beach Connect.
      • Select the specific service you want and choose Online, Phone, or In-Person appointment. 

      Appointment Scheduling Guide:

      1. Log in using Single Sign-On.
      2. On the far right side, click the "Get Assistance" button.
      3. Select "Career Counseling" as the appointment type.
      4. Select the service type.
      5. Select your preferred meeting type: Online, Phone, or In-Person.
      6. Select the location as College of Health and Human Services Advising Center 
      7. Select a day and time that fits your schedule.
      8. Review appointment details and confirm the appointment.
