The Assessment Process

Assessment plans and their related documents (maps, rubrics, etc.) give us the opportunity to engage all faculty in the assessment process and build consensus about program learning outcomes, how and when these outcomes will be assessed, what the standards for success will be, and when data will be reviewed.

Broadly speaking, the assessment and program improvement process (PDF) involves 3 main steps:

  1. Planning for the process by articulating by writing learning outcomescreating a curriculum mapcreating an assessment plan, and developing signature assignments and rubrics.
  2. Collecting and interpreting the data.
  3. Reporting on program improvement efforts.
