Principal, Long Beach Unified School District (ret.)
Marnos Lelesi earned her B. S. degree in Early Secondary Education from the State University of New York, Oneonta and graduated in 1983 with a M. A. degree in Educational Administration from CSULB. Marnos was employed as a teacher and elementary school principal in the Long Beach Unified School District for 38 years. While working she served as president of the Long Beach Education Administrators Association and the Association of Long Beach Educational Managers.
She is past president of the CSULB Alumni Association and was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni in 1996. Her CSULB activities have included serving on the Alumni Grants Committee and By-Laws Committee, hosting students at her home, mentoring, present member of the executive committee of Women and Philanthropy, chair of fund-raising committee for the College of Education for seven years, member of Fine Arts Affiliates, and supporting events, such as Campus Couture shows, and Cole Conservatory events.
Other community activities include member of the board of Musical Theatre West and past president, president of the Footlighters (support organization of MTW), board of Retired Teachers Association, board of Delta Kappa Gamma (education organization), volunteer at Prisk Elementary School, and several leadership positions at Los Altos United Methodist Church.
I am proud to be a member of the CSULB community and feel that it is an outstanding resource in the community and provides opportunities for valuable educational experiences in a public school setting. Marnos and her late husband Alexander have lived in Long Beach for over 50 years. They have two sons, alumnus Michael (1993, B.A. in Psychology; 2000, teaching credential) and Tim, and five grandchildren.
