Labster Virtual Labs Now Available

Labster is a virtual lab simulation software now available at CSULB that can be uploaded into your BeachBoard courses for student access and grading integration.

Labster has many advantages for students to gain lab skills in a wide array of STEM subjects, from chemistry, physics, biology or even forensics. Students can try out lab techniques for the first time or practice with advanced lab equipment that might otherwise be inaccessible. The visual, immersive experience makes it easier for students to grasp complex concepts, and the integrated quizzes can help instructors see students’ learning progress.

Academic Technology Services is providing support to faculty who wish to incorporate these unique learning opportunities into their curriculum.

Assessment Tools

There are a number of BeachBoard tools to assist instructors with remote assessments and grading:

  • Quiz Tool. Create and manage assessments within BeachBoard using the Quiz Tool. Customize Submission Views to allow students to review completed quizzes as a study aid for final exams or future assessments.

  • Turnitin. Use Turnitin to confirm the originality of students’ research papers and essays. When similarities are found, Turnitin provides an annotated document showing both the student's paper and the original source.

Provide feedback directly onto student assignments by enabling the Turnitin Feedback Studio in Dropbox (enable this before students submit assignments; enabling it after submissions have been made will cause issues). See this video tutorial for Using the Feedback Studio.
  • Grading. Manage and share grades with students using the Grades Tool. Review these videos for a quick overview:
