Certification Training
The Green Events Program was developed to assist hosts in reducing the environmental impact and improving the accessibility of their on-campus events. This program has three components: the Equity and Sustainability checklist, the Equity and Sustainability Event toolkit, and training modules.
There are seven training modules that will walk you through each of the categories in the Equity and Sustainability checklist. Each training module is between 3-5 minutes. The total training time is about 30 minutes. All of the training modules must be watched to complete the Green Event Host quiz.
To become a certified Green Event Host, you must receive a passing score (80% or more).
Training Modules
As a university, we’re working toward a more just and sustainable future for all members of the campus community while also promoting a culture of social & environmental responsibility. The Green Event Host Certification Program and Equity & Sustainability Checklist and Toolkit were created to assist hosts in reducing the environmental impact and improving accessibility of their on-campus events.
Module 1: Introduction to the Green Events Program (7 minutes)
Equitable event planning ensures that events are diverse, inclusive, and accessible, providing opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to participate. By addressing such issues, we can create events that celebrate the diversity of our campus community and ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued.
Module 2: Planning with Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Mind (3 minutes)
Designing your communications to highlight your equity and sustainability efforts can contribute to positive event outcomes by encouraging guests and partners to adjust their behavior and prepare accordingly.
Module 3: Marketing, Training, and Attendee Education (3 minutes)
It’s important to adopt mindful purchasing practices that consider the full lifecycle costs and environmental impacts of products. Think about the environmental impact of your event materials as they get produced, move through the economy, are procured for use at CSULB, and leave the campus as either waste, recycling, or compost.
Module 4: Mindful Purchasing (5 minutes)
Catering is an area where small changes can lead to big positive impacts. We can use our purchasing power to advocate for organically grown & ethically sourced foods that directly support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet.
Module 5: Selecting Sustainable Food and Beverages (5 minutes)
Waste is one of the most visible and harmful environmental impacts of an event. Your goal should always be to run a zero-waste event even if you can’t achieve it 100%. A zero-waste event can be achieved by following our Waste Not principles of Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, & Responsible disposal.
Module 6: Reducing and Minimizing Waste (5 minutes)
The largest portion of CSULB’s carbon footprint is a result of people commuting to campus. With plenty of accessible sustainable transportation options and resources available in Long Beach, this is a great way for our community to directly contribute to achieving our climate action goals.
Module 7: Minimizing our Transportation Footprint (3 minutes)
Show us how your efforts empowered the campus community to learn about equity, sustainability, and climate justice!
REMINDER: To keep your Green Event Host Certification current, you must complete an Event Assessment and submit a Checklist a minimum of one time per academic year.
Now that you have watched all of the training modules, complete the Green Event Host Quiz.
Remember a passing score of 80% is required to receive your certification.
