Computer
facilities in the laboratory of include 10 PC
computers of Pentium II/III vintage and a Mac 7500
linked together via the University fiber-optic
backbone to form a web-based local area network.
The facility has a 1Gbyte line entering the
labs and all of the equipment is routed together
at a 100Mhz bandwidth.
NIH funding has been recently obtained to
develop a LAN system linking the HPLC systems and
the ICP-MS instruments for seamless data transfer
and archiving to a one Terabyte storage system
with a web-based searchable database.
Automatic backup will be accomplished via a
DVD jukebox.
An associated office, fully integrated into
the LAN system and the file, web and application
servers is used by students, technicians and
postdoctoral fellows to undertake data reduction
and analysis.
