ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My work has begun to contrast different print and drawing systems and vocabularies. I use the montype, unique print, as a beginning to establish a base or direction for the piece and then develop the print in a mixed media way by incorporating drawing and painting over the initial print. The piece can be read in layers and as a whole with the layers creating a discourse in line and color with each other. I am printing on larger paper so that the drawing aspect can expand the image into a new awareness of the paper. My work reflects an ongoing dialog with the inner life, on specific places and sense of time, a kind of visual diary of the personal and introspective, yet envisioned through symbolic forms that communicate common themes of the human condition.
