JOHN GRECO

STATEMENT

The general theme of my art has evolved from a strong romantic sense that art is life and life is art: and that art goes far beyond its physical representation and through its essence arouses the senses to knowledge.

I am most interested in the human condition of modern man and in his interaction and evolution with the environment. For this reason I have chosen to center most of my works around the human figure. I have discovered that the human figure can eternally be recreated and therefore functions as a general symbol for any combination of emotional, phychological, physical, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of our existence. There is little if anything that cannot be successfully expressed through the image of the human figure. In this way the human figure becomes a symbol of humanity and the life force of nature that I am so attuned to.

My intention in creating art is to involve the viewer in the timelessness of the image and in the essence of the subject. I wish to express the fundamental levels of human consciousness and to inspire the search for one's own purpose and meaning.
