MATH 123: Calculus II
Updates
- Due Tuesday, September 8: Enter your answers to the first homework set (hw01) on Webwork.
- Due Tuesday, September 1: Print and complete the Student Information Sheet.
Also, go to the Webwork site and print the first homework assignment according to the directions below. You do not have to do the problems yet. They're not due until next Tuesday, although I recommend starting as soon as you can. But first I just want you to get used to logging in to Webwork.
- Go to the Webwork site.
- Your username is your last name, in lower case. (Exceptions: oneal, bsjelin, jsjelin.)
- Your password is your 9-digit student ID number.
- Once you log in, you should see the first homework assignment ("set hw01"). Click the radio box to select it, and then click "Download Hardcopy for Selected Set".
- You'll get a PDF file with the problems. It should have your name at the top. Print it and show it to me in class on Thursday. You don't have to do the problems yet.
- Use the back button on your browser to go back to the Webwork page, and click logout.
- That's all you have to do by Wednesday, but if you have time, you can try solving some of the problems or entering answers on Webwork, following the directions below. The syntax takes some getting used to, so the sooner you give it a try, the sooner I can help you with difficulties that arise.
- How to enter answers on Webwork:
- Go to Webwork and print out a hard copy of the problems.
- Work them out on paper on your own.
- Check them using your calculator. If you don't have a calculator that does integrals, or you haven't figured out how to use it, you can use the online integrator for now. (Note that the syntax is slightly different from Webwork. See the tips on syntax.)
- Log back into Webwork. Click on the problem set.
- Click on a problem you want to enter the answer to. (You don't have to do the problems in order, and you don't have to do them all in one session.)
- Type in your answer. If you can't figure out how to format something, click the up arrow to go up to the problem list, and look at the instructions on the right. See also these tips on entering answers.
- Click the button to preview your answer. Make sure it looks like what you want. If not, or if there is any kind of error message, check your formatting, make changes, and preview it again.
- Once it looks right, click the button to submit it.
- It will tell you immediately if your answer is right or not. If it's right, move on to the next problem. If it's wrong, check your answer and redo the problem if necessary.
- You can try each problem as many times as you want (on this assignment). But don't guess randomly--you're unlikely to get the answer by guessing. Each guess is logged, so I can see how many times you tried to answer each problem.
- You can log out and come back at any stage, and your old work will be saved. (Don't just close your browser without logging out.)
