- Welcome to my home in
cyberspace. I am alone responsible for all the material in these pages. I
am a sociologist and I am presently a professor in the Department of
Chicano and Latino Studies at California State University, Long
Beach. Our mission is to prepare global citizens with knowledge and
skills that will enable then to contribute to the Latino community and
society at large.
I do
consulting, training, speaking engagements on Cultural diversity, Racialization
in Education and Anti-Racism around the nation. My professional interests are
in the field of racial and ethnic relations, racialization, social identity
development, especially, as it relates to Latinos and Latino politics in the
U.S. I am also involved in anti-racism initiatives in higher education,
specifically in the area of curriculum development.
- I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Since 1977, I
became involved in Racial Justice issues as a student in Louisiana State
University, Baton Rouge. I served as Assoc. Director for Racial Justice
for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's national office in
Chicago. I am a core trainer for Crossroads, a Racial Justice organization
in Chicago.
