Step 1

How to get the visa for travelling in China? When you plan to go to China, you need to prepare your travel documents. Your passport and visa are required documents to travel in PRC. Your passport is 護照 hùzhào and the visa is 簽證 qiānzhèng. You need to go to the Chinese embassy or consulate 中國大使館或者領事館 Zhōngguó dàshǐguǎn huòzhě lǐngshìguǎn to get the visa 辦簽證 bàn qiānzhèng. Step 2 Learn the words related to travle preparation

Before you travel, you must 準備 zhǔnbèi 你的 行李 xínglǐ. You may bring with you 兩件行李 liǎng jiàn xínglǐ or 兩個箱子liǎng ge xiāngzi when you fly. You must bring with you your 衣服 yīfu, 褲子 kùzi, 西裝 xīzhuuāng, 帽子 màozi 鞋子 xiézi…

(件)行李	(jiàn) xínglǐ	a piece of luggage
(個)箱子	(ge) xiāngzi	a suitcase
(頂)帽子	(dǐng) màozi	a hat, cap
(雙)鞋子	(shuāng) xiézi	a pair of shoes
(雙)冰鞋	(shuāng) bīngxié	a pair of skating boots
(雙)皮鞋	(shuāng) píxié	a pair of leather shoes
(雙)運動鞋	(shuāng) yùndòngxié	a pair of sport shoes
(件)衣服	(jiàn) yīfu	a piece of clothing, a jacket…
(套)西裝	(tào) xīzhuāng	a suit
(條)褲子		a pair of pants

Step 3 Read the text and try to understand it. The notes in blue will help you to understand it.

古波﹐昨天上午我給你打電話了﹐你不在。你去哪兒了﹖

我去中國大使館辦簽証了。

下午呢﹖你又不在。

[How about afternoon? You weren’t there either. 又 here means ‘again’, but the event already happened]

我吃了午飯就去看足球賽了。

[As soon as I ate lunch, I went to see the football match. In this sentence, we see the pattern

(一) VP1 就 VP2. VP1 is an event 1, VP2 is an event 2. Even 2 happens immitently after Even 2. We will work on this pattern in next session. ]

誰跟誰賽﹖

大學生跟銀行隊賽。

大學生隊贏他們了嗎﹖

沒有﹐大學生隊輸了﹐一比二。裁判不公平。

你總是說裁判不公平。

你沒去看﹐昨天大學生隊踢得很好。真氣人。

[真氣人 means ‘that really annoys people’ So you can’t say 我真氣人. If you want to say ‘I am really angry’, you need to say ‘我真生氣﹐我很生氣’]

好了﹐我問你﹐你的行李準備得怎麼樣﹖

我正整理箱子呢。我還差一頂帽子。你呢﹖

我想買一雙冰鞋。北京冬天可以滑冰。

我送你一雙冰鞋吧。

[送 means ‘to give … as a gift’ in this context. 送 somebody something.]

非常感謝。我給你買帽子﹐好嗎﹖

我也要謝謝你。明天吃了早飯我們就去商店。

[Another example of VP1 就 VP2: As soon as we finish the breakfast tomorrow, we will go to the store.]
