Prerequisites: CHIN 102 or equivalent or consent of instructor
This course is taught in English with some Chinese examples.
Introduction to modern standard Chinese, classical Chinese, the rise of written vernacular, dialect variations and sociolinguistic issues.
Students will not be shocked by the fact that Chinese speakers have various accents and their speech is different from what the students learned in school. They will not be confused by different writing systems used in the mainland of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
