Xiao Fen,

We received your letter on October 3rd. I never expected you would choose to take an American History class. I remember that in elementary school you used to hate history classes the most, so it was very surprising and pleasing that you enjoy literature and history. I believe that what your major is unimportant, but that the most important thing is what you are interested in. After graduation, many people find jobs that they dislike and take classes they don’t like. As a result, they do poorly and are unable to find work at all. Taking different types of classes will prove to be beneficial to you.

Because your younger brother is also starting school this month, he needs a lot of money, and because money is tight around the house we can not send you a check. I hope that you can get a temporary job to get some spending money. I won’t be paid until the end of the month and only then, I can send you the money.

Mother has recently fond work at the library. She is very busy and even has to work on weekends, but she enjoys this job very much. She doesn’t want you to fight with your roommate and she will call you in a couple days.

Best Wishes
