Lesson 1
Translated by Noto Chiho, Kosuke Hayakawa and Eric Hansen
Dad and Mom,

School started a week ago already.  This semester I'm taking 4 classes:
physics, chemistry, economics and American history.  I haven't decided what
my major is yet, so I think that taking a number of different classes maybe
will let me discover my interests.  I've liked science since I was a child,
and, since entering the university, I know that I'm interested in literature
and history.  These classes are rather heavy, particularly the chemistry
class.  The professor is very strict and we have to do experiments almost
every day.  In the history and economics classes, we often have to write
papers.  That's why I don't have enough time to sleep.

This semester I live in a double room.  My roommate is also a sophmore.
Everything's fine, except his boyfriend calls too much.  The phone rings
even at midnight.  I really don't like this.  The books I bought this semester are much more than last sememster.  For the physics books alone I spent more than 150 dollars.  There are still some books that I haven't bought!  When you write back, please mail me a check again, daddy.

I wish for you good health
                                      Your daughter
                                      Respectfully
Xiaofen
