Ways to incorporate this skill into your research assignments:

• Provide research tips on the Black Studies home page
• From the Black Studies Home page link to the Black Studies web site maintained by Susan Luévano, Black Studies Librarian
• Create with the Black Studies Librarian a web page outlining research steps and resources in Black Studies specifically needed for the course.
• Schedule library orientation for entire class
• Require incrementally more complex research skills for freshman through seniors
• Require these skills for graduation
  

Example of skills by college level

Freshman – Creating Thesis statements, identifying general Black Studies research resources, constructing a search strategy

Sophomore – Physically locate material in the library, Locate material in electronic format, understand LC, knows how to get material not at CSULB

Junior – Can access, locate, and evaluate material in print or electronic format; understands intellectual property and copyright issues

Senior – Can refine research question; Can draw independent conclusions based upon information gathered.
