Dissertations:       Finding Dissertations    Dissertations Online    Thesis not available at CSULB

Sometimes finding theses written by former students or students from other campuses can provide you with direction and a nice literature review.   To find a variety of dissertations locally as well as nationwide, please check out the resources below:

Finding Theses and Dissertations
Dissertations Abstracts (CSULB Authentication Required)
This is an online listing of Doctoral dissertations and masters theses from over 1,000 North American and European universities. Includes contents of Comprehensive Dissertation Index, Dissertation Abstracts International, Masters Abstracts International, and American Doctoral Dissertations. The best part of this database is that for dissertations published after 1996 you can retrieve a free 24 page preview, which can help you determine if it is useful for your research.

COAST
By searching in COAST the library catalog you will be able to find all of the theses published at CSULB.  You can click here to see dissertations arranged by department OR do a keyword search for your topic and add the terms THESIS BEACH.  For example: "literacy thesis beach" gives me all the theses at CSULB that contain the term literacy.

Getting your hands on a Thesis not available at CSULB
Link+
This is the best and quickest way to get your hands on dissertations that are owned by other campuses that participate in Link+. The trick is to find the title of a dissertation in dissertation abstracts first or use any of the keywords for these campuses:

CAMPUS

WORDS TO USE FOR DISSERTATIONS
CSU Fullerton KEYWORD: Thesis CSUF + your topic or department name
SDSU KEYWORD: Thesis (M.S.)--San Diego State University + your topic or department name
Loyola Marymount KEYWORD: Loyola Marymount Thesis+ your topic or department name
Claremont Colleges SUBJECT:Claremont Graduate School Dissertations And Theses (limit search and add other terms)
San Francisco State University KEYWORD: Masters Theses Collection+ your topic or department name

If you see a dissertation you like- all you have to do is click on request this item and enter your name and student ID number.  Items will arrive in 3-5 days!! Make sure the status for the dissertation says "available".

Interlibrary Loan
This is for titles that are not available in LINK+ or at CSULB.   You must have a library PIN to order dissertations this way and it takes a little longer (10-14 days).  Dissertations from other universities can be difficulty to get so know ahead of time that the library may not be able to fulfill your request.

If you have any questions about getting dissertations, don't hesitate to ask me!
