Their goal is to provide the latest information about developmentally appropriate physical education programs for children and youth. To combat the high obesity rate, they offer programs where teachers register their schools and then students register so they can participate. There is an abundant amount of information of traditional and non-traditional sports. PE Central provides lesson plans, equipment, and ideas that can be used when teachng physical education.

The California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD), founded in 1930, is a non-profit, voluntary membership corporation formed exclusively to promote the organizing and progress of school, community and statewide programs of health, physical education, recreation and dance which will embody such opportunities and which will insure the inclusion of such programs within the most appropriate philosophical and social context of life in California. Their goal is to communicate the importance of health, physical education, recreation, and dance and other movement-related activities as they contribute to human well-being and growth and development of individuals. CAHPHERD offers a publication of sholarly journals that assist when teaching physical eduation. CAHPHERD provides opportunitiies for professional development through their annual workshops and conferences.
