Portfolio Pointers
The portfolio should show that you have beginner’s
level competence in each of the 15 areas listed in the Science Education
Program Outcomes. In EDSS300C time was spent talking about which classes
you gained artifacts and evidence for each goal. If you have saved
your papers, projects, etc. you should not find this task difficult. You
may include papers, essays, tests, labs, videotapes, projects, external
evaluations, transcripts, etc. as evidence of achieving the outcome. You
may use a single artifact for more than one competence. (If you do use
a single artifact for multiple competencies you do NOT have to include
multiple copies of the artifact. Simply refer the reader to the place where
it is located.)
You should also have a brief description of how
the artifact(s) show your achievement of the outcome or progress towards
the outcome. You will have 15 brief descriptions ? one for each competence
[a brief description is 1-2 paragraphs]. The descriptions should convince
an outside reader (not Prof. Writer, Henriques or Martin) that you are
competent in the area.
Your portfolios will be returned to you but the reflections
for each competence will be put in your file.
You will be given an “incomplete” grade for one section
of your student teaching. Once you pass the program outcomes with your
portfolio, the incomplete will be changed to the appropriate student teaching
grade (credit or no-credit).
