How have theories of the world impacted the ways in which historians write about the past?  This class surveys the major schools of historical thought and examines their influence on historical writing in the twentieth century.  In order to understand differences in theoretical orientation in the most fruitful way, we will focus on only a few themes--primarily English working-class history.
