Use COAST, the Library Catalog
  • To find books, government documents, and more (will tell you what the Library can provide) COAST is linked from the Library Web Site.
  • Keyword searching is often the most useful to find content.
  • Use COAST to create your PIN (the PIN is required for off site access).
  • Use COAST to renew materials.
  • Use COAST to initiate requests for InterLibrary Services.

Use Research Databases to Find Articles

Use the following databases to find journal articles on your topic:
  • ABI Inform Global: a structured index to business material. Contains 1500 worldwide business periodicals. Many full-text resources in the database.
  • ABI Inform Trade & Industry: contains 700 full-text trade, industry, and business publications that cover day-to-day business issues, research and development, new technology, and industry news.
  • EconLit: a comprehensive index to the world’s economic literature that includes over 400 major journals, books, dissertations, working papers, and other materials.

More databases to find journal articles:
  • JSTOR: contains full-text major business and economics journals.
  • Factiva: a full-text database that contains nearly 8,000 publications in 22 languages (newswires, newspapers, magazines, trade journals, and media transcripts)
  • Lexis Nexis Academic Universe: a full-text database that contains major newspapers, magazines, and newswires. Contains international sources. Use the GUIDED SEARCH to allow more flexibility in your search request.
  • Public Policy (PAIS): an index for the following subjects-public policy, social policy, and generally social sciences. Contains citations to journal articles, books, government documents, statistical compilations, committee reports, and more. This database is international in scope.

Use the following resources to find company information:
  • Factiva: go to the Companies/Markets screen and conduct a Company Quick Search. This search pulls together financial information, news, stock quotes, and key competitors.


  • International Directory of Company Histories (1 West Reference HD 2721 D36): this set contains 3-5 page entries with facts from popular magazines, academic journals, annual reports and company archives.


  • Mergent Online: a database that contains company reports and EDGAR files for over 10,000 U.S. public corporations  and 20,000 non-U.S. corporations.

Use the following resources to find country information:
  • CountryWatch: a full-text database that contains in-depth reviews of about 200 countries, including geographical, political, economic, corporate, and environmental information. Updated with wire service news.
  • Mergent Online: using the Country Profile option on the search screen you can search by country for statistical data and a country map.
  • Stat USA: a full-text database that contains business, economic, and international trade information provided by the U.S. government. Click on Globus & NTDB and page down to click on Country Commercial Guides or Country Background Notes.

  • Doing Business in… (1 West Reference HC 10 P752): these are Price Waterhouse information guides on business conditions in the various countries Price Waterhouse has a connection with.
