St. Mary's flexes its muscles, downs the Beach 43-7

In sports, losses can be seen as measuring sticks for where a team on the short end needs to go to play their best. Yesterday's match between St. Mary's College and Long Beach State was a measuring stick between the talent in the Northern California and Southern California unions. The Gaels, under head coach Tim O'Brien, played a solid match, defeating the 49ers 43-7 on the CSULB Rugby Field.

In the reserve game, Long Beach State was able to cut it close with SMC, of Moraga, CA, but eventually fell, 22-15. With the loss, Long Beach State drops to 3-4 for the season.

The Beach completes its Fall 2007 campaign against the Humboldt State Lumberjacks on December 20, 2007. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on the CSULB Rugby Field.

EDIT: The match against Humboldt State has been replaced by the scrimmage against Belmont Shore RFC. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, December 15, at 12:00 p.m. on the CSULB Rugby Field.
