UCI wins the Open Division at the Kickoff Tournament, but Killer Bees successfully defend their B Division crown

It was more of the same from Long Beach State at the Kickoff Tournament on November 10. But UC Irvine toppled defending Open Division champions Cal Poly to win the crown. Meanwhile, the Beach reserves, dubbed "The Killer Bees" for their consistent play and providing the finishing sting went undefeated to win the B Division Round Robin.

The Anteaters had to go the long way to win the tournament, after dropping their first meeting with the Mustangs. The payback would result in a huge payoff for the visitors down the 405.

The Long Beach State first side finished 1-2, good for third place in Pool 1, while the reserves went undefeated, going 4-0, including a win over Cal Poly.

The 49ers face USC this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the CSULB Rugby Field.
