Another rough season for the 49ers ends in defeat

When the SCRFU University Division I season began several weeks ago, things were looking promising for Long Beach State, having began their season with victories over San Diego and UC San Diego. Then came UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, UCSB, and finally San Diego State. All of a sudden, the cold reality started to strike in: first impressions can be deceiving.

The Aztecs clinched the SCRFU University Division I title in a 66-0 laugher of a shutout over the Beach on the CSULB Rugby Field. Both SDSU and Cal Poly were already qualified for the USA Rugby Division I National Tournament, which will start later this week.

The 49ers finished their season at 6-10, 3-6 in the SCRFU (16 points), good enough for no higher than 6th on the ladder (other results have yet to be made official as of this post). San Diego State completes their league campaign at 9-0, with the full 45 points.

Long Beach State Rugby thanks you for supporting the team throughout this season. We hope to see you next Fall. Go Beach.
