The Long Beach State Rugby team had a rough go at things in the desert, as the 49ers visited Arizona and Arizona State at Tucson and Tempe. The visitors proved to be unwelcoming for the A-side, as the Wildcats defeated the 49ers 22-10, while the Sun Devils WON 22-15. The B side fared better against the hosts, defeating U of A 22-10 and ASU in a completely one-sided obliteration, 44-0 and maintaining the "B" side's undefeated record.
Brighter days would come for the 49ers as they returned home to take on the UCLA Bruins. These victories were hard earned, as the A-side defeated the visitors from Westwood, 27-12, while the B side won 22-5.
After a practice session this weekend, the Long Beach State 49er Rugby Team will continue their season on March 11 against Cal Poly SLO before going up the road to Santa Barbara on March 17th to take on UCSB in a night game at the UCSB stadium. Kickoff against Cal Poly is 2:00 p.m., while the match against the Gauchos will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
