In spite of Mother Nature threatening the elements, Long Beach State got back on the winning track, defeating the Claremont Colleges 23-10 last Saturday at the CSULB Rugby Field.
Pacing the 49er first XV were Austin Reid, Paul Irizarry, Justin Gauthier and Greg Justyn. Geoff Pound also converted a penalty to cap off the scoring for the Beach.
In the reserve grade match, the Killer Bees put the sting to Claremont in a 15-5 win.
With this win, the 49ers improve to 6-5 for the season, and 3-1 in the SCRFU (16 points). They will continue SCRFU play in the Grand Canyon State to take on the Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils. The match against the Wildcats is scheduled for February 29 at 2:00 p.m. PST in Tucson, while the match against the Sun Devils is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at 12:00 p.m. PST.
