Long Beach State were in for a rude awakening as they faced the UCLA Bruins last Saturday at the CSULB Rugby Field. A combination of team speed and precise execution off a blazing start with a 31-3 halftime lead, and the visitors from Westwood never looked back, as they handed a 46-25 defeat to the 49ers. Neither side came away from the match empty-handed, as Long Beach State acquired one point from scoring four tries in the contest (UCLA received the full five).
The Beach was paced with tries by Justin Gauthier, Sam Searson, Greg Justin, and Jeff Pound. Pound also converted a penalty and his own try to lead the team with 10 points. The 49ers drop to 5-5, 2-1 SCRFU (10 points).
Long Beach State hosts the Claremont Colleges next Saturday, February 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the CSULB Rugby Field.
