Vintage CSULB Rugby

The CSULB Rugby Club was founded in 1972 by Dr. Dale Toohey, and its focus to this day is to compete at its highest potential, while maintaining a fun, rewarding experience and camaraderie, in the name of the sport we call rugby.

So what do we do?

Our rugby season is intense, with games year round. Our season this year begins in October and concludes in May. We compete with clubs from all over the nation, as well as our rival teams from the University Division of the Southern California Rugby Football Union. We have team strength training sessions on Monday and Werdnesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Our practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, and our games are generally held on weekends.

Do you need to have rugby skills to play for us?

The answer: Of course not! We welcome players of all skills and abilities to play for our team. After new players participate in our practice sessions, they begin to learn the essentials of the game we all cherish. Skilled rugby players who play for us can teach unskilled players, for example, and everyone will benefit. Once you try out rugby, it is certain you will get hooked. Also, everyone on our team will have the opportunity to play on our first XV, as well as our reserve grade side.

We also welcome any monetary donations you would like to give, which will all go to the development and growth of our club and our program. To make a donation to Beach Rugby, click on the "Donations?" link to the left, or e-mail our coach, Dr. Emyr Williams.
