At the beginning of the semester, Dr. McLaughlin handed out a sheet explaining how to scan a photo and store it to a floppy disk. So far, we havenít found any use for the scanned photo, and I think it is time to put it in use by writing a simple text file, widely known as home page.

This document is intended for those who are not familiar with computers in general, but some prior experience, such as having used Netscape, would make things easier. Also, it is for the students who are enrolled in English 317 class or have access to Mac computers in LA-5 building. Therefore some procedures, such as logging on to the UNIX system, might be somewhat different for others.

Major steps include

  1. logging on to the UNIX system and making a publicly accessible directory for the home page
  2. writing a simple document which contains the photo and a short biography
  3. transferring the document and your scanned photo from the floppy disk to the home page directory
  4. viewing the home page using Netscape.
