Click on ACS Drive icon, click on Application folder, and finally click on Internet Tools folder.
Start MacSamson or Telnet by clicking on its icon.
Enter "vanilla.csulb.edu" on Host[port] box.
Alternatively, choose ">Unix vanilla.csulb.edu" from the list box if you opened MacSamson. Click on OK button.
Enter your login ID and password.
Note: When many students are already logged on, you might have to try several times before you can log on. Just repeat step 3. After logging on, your screen might look like this.

Enter "mkdir htdocs" (all lower case).
Enter "chmod 755 htdocs" (all lower case).
Exit from the Unix system by entering "bye" at the prompt.
Quit from the application.
Writing a home page
Launch SimpleText or Notepad.
Enter the following lines:
Most of the time, this is the first line people will see, and it is also the name of your home page, which people use to search your document on the Internet. Make it descriptive, but not too wordy
Change the name of photo file accordingly. Make sure the case for the letters is correct; "Photo.gif"is different from "photo.gif."
This is your short biography.
Change it to your login ID. It enables people to send you a message with just a click of the mouse button.
Save the above lines in a fille named "index.html" and exit from the text editor.
Transferring your scanned photo and home page
Insert your floppy disk which has the scanned photo stored in it into the computer’s disk drive.
Start Fetch by clicking on its icon from the Internet Tools folder.
Enter the following items.
Host : ftp.csulb.edu
UserID : en317az9 (use your login ID)
Password : ········ (it is shown as bullets)
Directory : htdocs
Click on Put File button.
Select the name of your scanned photo from the list, and click on Open button.
Set Format to Raw Data, and click on OK button.
Repeat the above, selecting your "index.html" file, with a Format of Text.
Viewing your home page
Start Netscape by clicking its icon from Internet Tools folder. If you are reading this, you can skip this step.
Enter "http://www.csulb.edu/~en317az9" in the Go To box.
Change the last two characters to match your login ID.
Note: You might need to go back to the Writing Home Page section to make corrections if there are any mistakes. Here is a sample screen.
