Instructions to the Student Author

Create a single word processing (or typewritten) document containing documentation for your presentation. Be sure to read Chapter 24 in Lannon before attempting this assignment.
Evaluation SheetUse the peer evaluation sheet on page 590.
Topic Selection For this assignment, you are expected to use the same topic as your term project report. However, if you prefer, you may select another topic relevant to your major field or area of interest.
Document Format Prepare double-spaced pages with one-inch borders and a monospaced Pica typewriter font (12-point Courier). Use only normal left justification as in this document, with ragged right margins. At the top of your first page, enter the title from the top of this page, followed by a descriptive subtitle, your name, short ID (letter-number) and the date. Minimally, your name, the date and page number must appear in a header on each page.
Audience Write for a specific use by a specified audience. It must comprise beginners or lay persons in your field. Include an audience-and-use profile (page 60) adapted to your own professional preferences and purposes as needed. If you are reporting on your term project, use the same audience-and-use profile.
Outline Provide an outline in no more than three pages as described in Chapter 24. Follow the guidelines given on pages 589-591.
Citations You must identify an authority for the contents of your presentation, such as your term project report. Provide a bibliography appropriate to your disciplinary style. If you are reporting on your term project, use the same bibliography.
Visuals Provide at least one visual as described in Chapter 24. Follow the guidelines given on pages 587-588. Your visuals may be overhead transparencies or photo slides or electronic images such as those created using PhotoShop, Persuasion or PowerPoint.
Presentation Sign up in advance, if possible. You may plan on spending from five to ten minutes for your oral report.
HandoutPrepare at least one page for your classmates, giving your name, date and class section. Provide an informational abstract of your presentation and at least one citation for further information.
