James Amirkhan, Ph.D.

Area of Interest: Individual differences in stress and coping and measuring these differences.
Courses Taught: Personality (Psy 356, 458), Psychometrics (Psy 314)
Description of Research: Research is typically conducted in the community: surveying levels of stress, coping strategies, & illness outcomes.
Student Participation: The research group is small, and highly selective.  About half the members are graduates and half undergraduates.  Psy 499 (independent study) is a option for those selected into the group.
Requirements:
  1. GPA should be high (3.5)
  2. Student should have taken at least one course from me
  3. Pleasant Personality
  4. Willingness to occasionally do mundane and boring tasks (e.g. data coding)
  5. Familiarity with SAS
  6. Be available for 2 to 6 hours per week.  This varies by the week and sometimes will even be a little less than two hours or a little more than 6 hours.
Participation Description:
  1. Attendance at a weekly research meeting
  2. Performing data collection, coding, or entry on own time
Semester(s) Needed: Fall 2004 and Spring 2005.  Group votes on whether to accept new member.
