Graduate Resources Room/Career Resources Room

Graduate Resources Room

Located in the Psychology Peer Advising Office is the Graduate Resources Room.  It contains material on graduate programs (including many copies of the APA directory, Graduate Study in Psychology) as well as on how to apply to graduate schools.  Although Psychology undergraduates routinely make use of the facilities, our master's students are encouraged to use them as well, particularly those of you who intend to apply to PhD programs.

Along with the APA are other directories and binders holding materials on various disciplines and related fields.  Some examples are binders and directories entitled "Clinical," MBA Programs, "Directory of Human Factors/Ergonomics Graduate Programs in the United States and Canada," Law Schools, "Forensic Psychology," and Graduate Programs in Business, Education, Health, Information Studies, Law and Social Work.

Materials intended to assist with the graduate school application process include The Complete Guide to Graduate School Admission: Psychology, Counseling, and Related Professions, "A Guide to Writing a Statement of Purpose," and "Eye on Psi Chi: Graduate School Tips."

Also included are school catalogues, although these tend to be a few years old (the Peer Advising Office gladly takes donations).  One might find more up-to-date information on school web sites, although these catalogues provide a starting point.

Career Resources Room

The Career Resources Room, also housed in the Peer Advising Office, has books and binders on various Psychology and related areas requiring a master's or PhD (as well as bachelor's degrees).  These materials may suggest various fields our graduate students might consider outside of the traditional Psychology ones (one of my favorite books up there is the Cool Careers for Dummies -- great information on careers you wouldn't have thought of, and the degrees (if any) required for them; there's also a book on the FBI: John Douglas's [sic] Guide to Careers in the FBI.)

The materials are organized into a "Careers with a BA" bookshelf and "Careers Requiring a Graduate Degree," which is subdivided into Master's and PhDs.  These books and binders include "Careers with a MA/MS," Career Paths in Psychology, "Non-Traditional Careers for Psych PhD Grads," and Careers in Science and Engineering.

Other Materials Available

There are several videos available for screening in the Peer Advising Office, although our master's students are more apt to be interested in the graduate course syllabi located in the main VRR viewing room.

All materials in the Office are available for your use; however, there is no check-out.  The hours of the Peer Advising Office may be found on their web site:
