Convergence of SDy Estimates for the Brogden-Gleser Utility Analysis
This thesis compared the results of the different methods used to estimate standard deviation of workers’ performance in dollar amount (SDy) used in the Brogden-Gleser utility analysis formula. Seven procedures were used to estimate SDy: one cost-accounting procedure, three CREPID methods, two global procedures and one 40% rule.
The SDy estimate from each
procedure was compared to the cost-accounting method’s SDy estimate.
All but the global procedures were found to be significantly different from the
cost-accounting’s SDy estimate.
It was hypothesized that the global procedure’s instructions were vague, causing
a large variance. It was found that by modifying the instructions, the variance
could be significantly reduced without affecting its convergence with the
cost-accounting procedure.
