Relationship between Honesty, Ability and Personality Tests and Job Performance
The relationship between honesty, mental ability and personality and job performance was investigated. Subjects were 68 female and 9 male credit union tellers. The instruments used were the: Stanton Survey; Profile; credit union’s own performance appraisal instrument. Scores for Mental Ability, Honesty and Personality were regressed on job performance ratings. Results indicated that honesty did not add significantly to the prediction of job performance over and above either mental ability [change in R2 = .01, F(1 74) = .85, p > .05] or personality {change in R2 = .03, F(1, 65) = 2.31, p > .05]. The combination of all three tests was no better at predicting job performance ratings than mental ability or honesty alone [change in R2 for all three versus Mental Ability = .12, F(11, 64) = .90, p > .05; change in R2 for all three tests versus Honesty = .19, F(11, 64) = 1.40, p > .05]. However the combination of all three tests predicted job performance to a greater extent than Personality alone [change in R2 for all three tests versus Personality = .15, F(2, 64) = 5.94, p < .01].
