Comparisons and Contrasts among Managerial Men, Managerial Women and
Non-Working Women Using a Locus of Control Construct

A survey was developed by the researcher to assess locus of control at home.  The hypotheses predicted that men would score the highest on the internal dimension and women working in managerial positions would have higher scores than women who did not work outside the home; while men and women working in managerial positions would have higher scores on the powerful others dimension and lower scores on the chance dimension than for women who did not work outside the home.

There was no significant difference on the internal measure for the three groups.  Non-working women scored significantly higher than men or working women combined on the two external measures; powerful others and chance.

Since the results of this study differ from past research dealing with locus of control, it is theorized that locus of control at home is different than locus of control in other environments.
