The Effects of Implementation Styles on the Success of Corporate Fitness Programs

The effect of implementation styles on corporate fitness programs was investigated.  Seven corporate fitness program directors and 100 random employees across seven organizations comprised the sample.  Two questionnaires were administered.  The Directors completed a questionnaire designed by the researcher, and the employees completed a modified version of Brayfield and Rothse’s (1951) Job Satisfaction Index (JSI) as well as additional questions designed by the researcher.  The results indicated that health care costs went down when implementation was more participative.  Employee program satisfaction was also higher the more participative the implementation.  This was shown by both a positive correlation between program satisfaction and directors’ implementation rating and by a difference between mean program satisfaction level of those subjects perceiving the fitness program as participatorily implemented and those perceiving mandatory implementation.
