Successful Masters Alumni
Harvey Wichman earned the first Master's Degree awarded by the CSULB
Psychology department, and was, until he recently retired, a Professor at
Claremont Graduate School and Director of the Aerospace Psychology Lab which
studies manned space flight.

James Alexander received a Master's degree at CSULB and his PhD from
Michigan State. Currently a Professor at the University of Utah, he developed a
major model of Family Therapy.

Sonia Ancoli-Israel is a research psychologist at the San Diego V.A.

Jeffrey J. Annon (MAR) is the Director of the
Data Management Center for
the UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP).
He oversees the data capture, management, reporting, and cleaning for more than
20 ISAP projects. Prior to this, he was a part of the UCLA Methamphetamine
Treatment Project, which compared treatments for methamphetamine abuse in five
cities in the United States. He was also the Project Director for the UCLA
LAAM project, which compared methadone and levo-alpha-acetyl methadol (LAAM)
treatment of heroin addicts in Los Angeles. Mr. Annon has been with the
UCLA Drug Abuse Research Center (which, with other entities, became ISAP in
1999) since 1990, working on various research projects.

T. Kiku Annon (MAR) currently works for WestEd as a Research Assistant in the Health and Human Development Program, which does school based research in ATOD use, Bullying and Harassment, Health/Nutrition/Exercise, and Risk and Protective Factors.
Adam Bank (MAR) earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Wayne State University in 2001. He completed his predoctoral internship at the Miami VA Medical Center in 2000, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Geropsychology at the Boston VA Healthcare System and Harvard Medical School in 2002. He is currently a Research Assistant Professor at the Center on Aging at the University of Miami School of Medicine. His current research focuses on aging, technology, and assessment and treatment of late-life depression in minorities.
Marsha Baucom (MAR) received her
law degree from
Western State University. She created her own Law Practice in 1991 and
specializes in Family Law.

Allen Berger (MAR) completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at UC Davis, and has done considerable work in Sports Psychology as applied to tennis. Over the past thirty years he has been working in the addiction field. He has had a pamphlet published by Hazelden that is currently being utilized nationwide in treatment programs to indoctrinate the new patient in the process of group therapy in order to maximize the patient's results from this therapeutic modality. He has also recently been notified that Health Communications Inc. has agreed to publish his book on making relationships work.
Leann Birch is Head and Chair of the Department of Human Development
and Family Studies, Pennsylvania State University, and an authority on
children's eating preferences and disorders.

Devin Blizzard (MAR) is an Administrator and Principal of Copper Hills
Elementary School in Clovis, CA. He earned an additional MS in MFCC at San
Jose State and went on to work in an East San Jose Clinic. From there he
was recruited into school leadership and worked at downtown area middle schools.
He also started a number of FIRST Robotics teams in Silicon Valley, and has
recently served as the Central California representative to
FIRST and
FIRST LEGO
robotics.

Michael Brannick (IO)
joined
Thomson Prometric as president and Chief Executive Officer in June 2001,
focusing on expanding

in the rapidly growing testing and certification market. He also serves on

Brenna Chirby received her PsyD from the American School of

Michael Fakinos (MAR) completed his doctoral work in Counseling
Psychology at Ball State University in Indiana, and is currently serving as a
Professor of Psychology at the Athens, Greece campus of La Verne University.

David L. Falkstein (MAR) obtained his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Texas. He is a Licensed Psychologist and Specialist in School Psychology, working for Allen ISD in Texas and maintaining a part-time private practice in Sherman, Texas. In his private practice, Dr. Falkstein specializes in child and adolescent clinical psychology with a focus on differential diagnosis and evaluation of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the treatment of childhood and adolescent emotional and behavioral disorders. Dr. Falkstein is also the psychologist for the Child Guidance Clinic of Texoma in Sherman, Texas. He has worked in the mental health field for over 15 years.
Joanne Cosmos Finn (MAR) is currently working at Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Concord, CA, as a school psychologist. Currently is involved with elementary school and crisis team. Previously middle school and adult transition program (18 to 22 year olds) experience. She completed a school psychology credential program here at CSULB as well.
Claudia Geer (MAR) is an
Associate Professor at
Southwest College. She completed her doctorate at the University of
California at Davis in Personality/Social Psychology.

Dorie Glover recently received a 5-year career development grant from
NIMH to study PTSD
and depression in parents of children with cancer, and will be looking at
hippocampal volume via MRI and neuroendocrine functioning. She is an Assistant Professor in Residence
in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Tom Granoff (IO) went to Fuller Theological Seminar for his MA in
Theology (1997) and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, after working a number of
years in computer programming and marketing research positions in the health
care industry. He currently works full-time at an Internet based-business
as an academic and marketing research consultant for clients both around the
country and internationally, which involves doing the
statistical analyses for
thesis and dissertation projects.
He has also have taught research/statistics courses part-time at LMU in their
Department of Education for the last seven years and a year ago began doing the
same at Pepperdine University.

Jaki Hewitson Kamphuis (MAR) is currently on the faculty at Orange
Coast College, where she runs the
Tutorial Center. She has also worked as a therapist

Argiro Julie Kiotas earned her PhD at University of Delaware, and has a tenure track position at Pasadena City College, teaching courses through the Social Sciences division. She also conducts marketing research for several companies.
Alyce LaViolette is a recognized authority on battered women and an
activist against violence and author of It Can Happen to Anyone: Why
Battered Women Stay. She is also the founder of Alternatives to
Violence, located in the city of Long Beach.

Alison Lenton went on to earn a PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
She currently occupies a Lectureship position for the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge in England
(she explains that "Lecturer" is a title akin to that of "Assistant Professor" in the
U.S.).

Jeffrey Mio earned his PhD at University of Illinois, Chicago, and is
a Professor in the

Brenda Nordenstam (MS) received her PhD from UC Irvine. She currently serves as an Associate Professor in Environmental Studies at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY.
Vern Padgett graduated from CSU Long Beach in 1980 with his masters in psychology, and in 1985 with his Ph.D. in experimental social psychology from The Ohio State University. He taught at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and is now Professor of Psychology at Rio Hondo Community College in Whittier, California.
Linda A. Parker (MAR) received both her BA and MA at CSULB, and her PhD at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is currently a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University.
David A. Po-Chedley (IO) has been
actively involved in project management for over 25 years. He is President
of Cambridge Consulting, a firm
dedicated to enhancing project effectiveness for clients worldwide, and is

Cynthia S. Rand obtained a CSULB Master's degree, and is a

Bonnie K. Shrewsbury added an Environmental Studies Certificate to her CSULB Psychology Masters, and has continued her association with the university by teaching a GIS course. She's currently the GIS Manager for the City of Manhattan Beach, who honored her as the 2001 Employee of the Year, and was the flood zone contact for the City of Lakewood.
Sherry Span began her graduate career at CSULB as a Conditionally
Classified student, subsequently gaining successful entry into the
MA-Research program. After completing her PhD at USC, she was hired on as
a tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology at CSULB.

Jim Turner is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies at UCLA. He received his PhD from University of Missouri, and was a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA for a number of years with research interests in placebo effects, the everyday lives of mentally retarded adults, and indigenous psychologies.
