There is much confusion regarding imported beers, their authenticity,
their alcohol content, etc., but Edelweiß is authentic, unaltered
from its European counterpart, and PA'S BIER is proud to offer this authentic
German/Austrian Wheat beer to the American public.
In the summer of 1990, Ma and Pa Bier were in Bremen, Germany and sat in
a Gasthaus, looking across the river to the Beck's brewery. We ordered
a Beck's Dunkel (dark) and were informed by the waiter that Beck's
does not make a Dunkel. Our German is good, especially when ordering
a beer, so we tried two other Gasthäuser. In all instances,
we were informed that Becks does not make a Dunkel beer. Now, we
do not know the Beck's brewery, its administration, its attitudes, its brewing
process, nor its export beers. We only know that Becks did not brew a
dark beer for domestic consumption in 1990. *
Edelweiß Dunkel is, on the other hand, exactly what you would
drink in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and elsewhere throughout Austria.
Ask for an Edelweiß Dunkel on your next visit to Austria, and
tell the waiter or waitress, with a little grin, that you first drank it
in California, (or whereever you did in the U.S. (It's in at least 25 states).
