Education and Expertise: Professor Mary
Wolfinbarger earned a B. S. in English from Vanderbilt University, and a
Masters in Business and Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Marketing at
University of California, Irvine. Her specialties include internet
marketing, online consumer behavior, and internal marketing. She has
been teaching at CSULB since 1990. Dr. Wolfinbarger has expertise in both
quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and has co-authored
a marketing research textbook. Under her direction, the College of
Business Administration was re-accredited in spring 2009.
Research and
University Activities: Under the auspices
of a $50,000 grant from CRITO (Center for
Research on Information Technology in Organizations), Professor
Wolfinbarger and co-investigator Mary Gilly
(University of California, Irvine) have co-authored several articles
about consumer behavior on the Internet. Dr. Wolfinbarger's interest in
e-commerce and technology extends to the classroom, as she developed and
taught the first Internet Marketing course at CSULB in 1999. As well, she
has written articles on the impact of technology and e-commerce on the classroom and on
the business school curriculum.
| She has several research
projects that are ongoing that involve the online environment.
Along
with Mary Gilly and Hope Schau
(Temple University), Dr. Wolfinbarger received two grants
totaling $25,000 from CRITO to research how Seniors use the
Internet. As well, she and her co-authors are working with the
Department of Defense to study the effects of email availability and
usage during deployment. |

| Grants and
Publications: Professors
Wolfinbarger and Gilly have also collaborated on research on the
topic of internal marketing, conducting studies at several Fortune
500 companies. Marketing Science Institute (MSI) awarded Professor
Wolfinbarger two grants to study internal marketing, the most recent
being in July 1999. She has published articles in Journal of
Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, California Management
Review, Psychology and Marketing, Journal of the Academy of
Marketing Science, Journal of Business Research
and Earthquake Spectra..
