Course Description

Far from being a marginal subject, the occult and the supernatural were central Victorian concerns. This course will study beliefs about the occult and the supernatural during the "long 19th century" (the late 1780's to the early 20th century). While the focus of the course will be Victorian Britain, the international character of Occultism in this period will also be addressed.
