Kevin O'Sullivan received a Fulbright Scholarship and studied in Ghana during the 1994/95 academic year. The focus of his research in Ghana was on Anlo-Ewe music and dance, and its function at funerals. Mr. O'Sullivan's studies in Ghana also included learning how to play the kogiri—a traditional Ghanaian xylophone—which is the principal instrument of the Lobi people of Northern Ghana. In 1996 Kevin received the degree of Master of Fine Arts in African Music and Dance from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Currently, he teaches drum set and African music at CSULB and also performs with Zadonu African Music and Dance Ensemble. Some performance and/or lecture venues include: CalArts, CSULB, UCLA, A Noise Within, East West Players, UCSD, Harbor College, Japan American Theatre, Wilshire Ebel Theater, Art Center, Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT, MI).
