Audition Information
A performance audition is required for acceptance into the degree programs of the California State University, Long Beach Department of Music. All entering freshmen and undergraduate transfer students who have been admitted to the university are required to pass a performance audition and take a theory placement examination. Students wishing to audition should prepare solo, etude, or art song material from the standard repertoire of approximately 10 minutes in length. The selection(s) should demonstrate both technical and lyrical skills.
The Theory Placement Exam is a diagnostic test used to determine the appropriate level of theory in which the student should enroll. The test is offered on each audition day and the first Friday of each semester.

Opera Audition Dates
Opera Institute Auditions will be held Sunday, August 30, 2009 in the Gerald R. Daniel Recital Hall from 1:00pm-6:00pm.
Please be prepared to sing two arias and bring a memorized monologue in English. Please sign up for a 10-minute audition on the sign up sheet on the Opera Board (opposite Dr. Anglin’s office A509).
NEW students: If you and I have not worked together please also sign up for a half-hour meeting / informal coaching with Dr. Anglin on Thursday Aug. 27. Very informal; just a chance to get to know each other a bit beyond the Sunday audition.
ALL auditionees: please plan on an improvisation / movement workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 1 from 3:30-5:30pm. We may determine after the Sunday auditions that this is not necessary but please plan on it for now. We will post the 2009/10 Opera class roster on Thursday morning, Sept. 3 and hold our first meeting in the afternoon @ 3:30.
