EDSS300C Links to Activities in Class

Here's a source of some great demos! They are posted by  N.E.R.D.S.  Nebraska Educators Really Doing Science

Here's a quick link to former EDSS300C in class demos done by students.

Physics Demos from the University of Maryland's physics department website.

Science Club Monthly is a company which sells science its (a new one comes each month). They list several cool labs and demonstrations.

The Check Activity
There are several versions of the check activity we did in class. The set we used is not on the web but several others are available on-line.

The Edible Candle
There are a few different ways of presenting the edible candle demo. Most often it is used an introduction to observations and inferences.
Now You See It, Now you Don't

Cat's Meow
We did this activity to learn about operational questions and review the concept of controlling variables. Operational questions are those questions which can be answered by doing a hands-on investigation or experiment. As Greg pointed out, "why" questions tend not to be operational questions.

Materials: petri dish (or small plate), milk, liquid soap, tooth pick, food coloring

Variables you can test:
types of milk
types of soap
amount of soap
location of soap
order in which you add ingredients
liquids other than milk
liquids other than soap
soap delivery instruments other than toothpicks
temperature of milk
